Visit of the hydrogen production plant of Pico Truncado PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 April 2008

We eventually arrive in Pico Truncado. It's the moment of emotion. So many km of straight roads to come and visit one of the only 3 hydrogen production plants using renewable energy in the world: we are at the experimental hydrogen production plant of Pico Truncado in Patagonia.

The warden opens the gate and we park the car. The newly appointed plant manager, Roberto Rodriguez welcomes us and after a few introductory words starts the tour of the premises: the wind mills, the water purifier, the electrolyzer, the filling station, the lab and of course "neuquen 1", a renault 9 modified to run on hydrogen.

We unfortunately learn that the plant doesn't work at the moment due to a recent change of the team.

The explanations are quick and Roberto informs us that the engineer who worked on the car, Jorge Lezcano, lives in Bariloche. I must meet him for the H2 Project. We thank our guide for his time and get back on the road immediately to go to the Andes.
