Where to start? There are so many things to do in Buenos Aires. you obviously have to visit the Boca (bad reputation), Recoletta (posh), Belgrano (aristocrat), Palermo (over-stated) neighbourhoods. I rapidly made new friends (too many to cite them all here) that I would like to thank for supporting me in my project. I spend a day at the Palermo Polo Open, a national contest that attracts attendance from all over the world. The day is sunny and the corporate stands is another oportunity to see more Argentinean beauties. What would Buenos Aires be without tango? Industry or passion? Both I think for the delights of the aficionados and the dummies (me). Despite many attempts I manage to avoid taking some lessons. There is one reason: to me it's like when you start your car in the morning, you are always astonished by the techhnology (at least I am) without being compelled to become a mechanician. Tango folows the same pattern to me: I prefer remaining an amateur who is always in admiration in front of this sexy dance. I was lucky enough to attend the "crowning" of the new President: Christina Kirchner… Shame she really thinks she is a Queen… The party organised for her on the main square (plaza de Mayo), looks more like a trade-union gathering: giant flags representing the different branches, hot-dogs and fresh drinks (obviously at a premium for the tourists) and last but not least, massive dvertisement for Quimes.. Quilmes is the first beer-manufacturer in the country… Just imagine on the day Sarkozy was elected if there were Pastis 51 caps all around… Dont' miss the Tigre either, a municipality where porteos have been small week-end houses… on interconnected islands in the middle of of the delata of Parana. To be back on the water reminds me of my last holidays in Annecy where I was sailing and so I decide to rent a sailing-boat for a day with Johanna, a charming Swedish girl. Finally, an event no to miss in the Argentinian calendar, el clasico, a football macth between Boca (Maradonna's club), and River or Lanus. Maradona and his famous "hand of God", remember Mexico 86? Right, I'm digressing a bit but that because Buenos Aires has so much to offer. I will be back in this city. Let's have a closer look at the H2 Project. I find information on hydrogen, start the construction of the website, visit the headquarters of Inlfex (world leader in the production of tank for storing compressed gas). A major problem arises: if I buy a vehicle in Argentina, I will not be allowed to leave the country with it. After a few enquiries, I decide to go to Chile to buy a beetle. I organise my trip so that I stop by the carnaval of Gualeguaychu, a kind of mini carnaval of Rio that takes place every end of week between the 1st week-ends of January and March… I've been told so many good things about it that I'm already impatient to get there! |
